Activities

While it is in a position of tranquillity within a the Bungawalbin Wetlands, Forest Glen Organic Farm offers a range of activities as an alternative to just putting the feet up and enjoying the pure peace of nature.

Go walkabout;

Nothing could be healthier than exploring Forest Glen's 65 Ha property, featuring abundant retained native bushland, wide lawns, gardens and billabongs. Located in the NSW Bungawalbyn Wetlands area, famous for its myriad birdlife and reptiles, it is a good kilometre to the Bungawalbyn Creek, a walk that will take you past native bushland, fields of tea tree plantation, grassland, waterholes and gullies. Soak up the tranquility and, if you come across them, pat and talk to the property's seven friendly horses.

Go fishing;

Bring your fishing licence with you and take the 1km walk to the creek. If you don't have any lures, put a garden fork into the rich soil behind the hothouses and pull up a few worms. Try your skill at bringing in one of the elusive bass that lurk under the shade. Bring the fish home and cook them on the outdoor BBQ or in the gas stove. If there is some left over, make sure you share it with the proprietors!

How's your pitch and putt;

Bring your clubs and try pitching and putting around our spacious lawns. You can aim for reasonable mid-distance shots without too much concern over your ball disappearing into the bush. On a good day, our farm dog will even fetch the balls for you.

Feed the chooks...

The kids will love the experience of venturing into the chicken run and replenishing the chook feeding tray before raiding the nests. The free range chickens come in to roost every evening, and manage to deposit up a half dozen eggs or so each day. Not all eggs are in the chook house. The house rules are that the farm owns the eggs in the chook house, while guests own any loose eggs laid outside the chook house. So far, this is about half and half.

Play a game of...

Cricket, T-Ball / Softball / Baseball, Table Tennis, Pool
Football: Equipment not available - there are too many codes!
A nominal deposit may be required in case of equipment damage

Play with Wags...

Wags is a willing participant in any form of human contact activity. He will field for you during ball games, he will swim with you or walk with you. When he is fielding, nobody will score any runs during a cricket game!

Photography...

Use the beautiful surroundings to capture special moments. We are often blessed with colourful sunsets that spread pink reflections across the billabong. We get wonderful misty mornings that result in myriad natural delights involving plants, spiders and other insects. Night time brings all manner of insects, including beautiful moths and spiders. The trees are alive with birds, and the grounds are abundant with kangaroos, lizards, birds, etc. The billabong is awash with tortoises, insects and restful scenes.

Birdwatching...

We have catalogued about fifty bird varieties that either live on or visit the property. Some of the more spectacular include swans, black cockatoos, pheasant coucal, eagles, kites and hawks, herons and egrets. Many finches and wrens can be seen in the bush. Many birds are seasonal visitors, but many live most of the year, if not all year, on the property. Bring your own camera and binoculars.

Stargazing...

If you haven't seen the skies from the outback on a clear night, you don't know what you are missing. While we don't claim to be in the outback, the only lights to be seen at Forest Glen are either generated on the property or sitting in the sky. The nights are simply breathtaking when the moon is where the sun is and there is not much cloud cover. The clear country air and lack of external light sources make this an ideal celestial viewing site. In the early evenings, look for satellites sailing high above. Later, lie down and look up and soak it all up - you're almost certain to see a "shooting star". You may be able to make arrangements for Trevor to give you a run down on what you are looking at - both what it is called and what it actually is. A pair of powerful binoculars and a small telescope are always on standby.

Go swimming...

The in-ground salt water pool is available for use by guests during daylight hours. Normal safety rules apply.

Go boating or canoeing...

Bungawalbyn Creek, which is wide and navigable for shallow craft, adjoins the property. This access enables the launching of a boat or canoe (or kayak or surf ski) into the creek. Once on the water, you are transported to a new world, and you sense that you could be in the wilds almost anywhere in Australia.
